vole

Rodent common in Central Europe with a body length of between 12 and 24 centimeters (also brewing mouse, small mouse, dry rat, earth rat). The family also includes the field mouse, which, however, plays no role in viticulture. The vole lives underground in passages up to one meter deep in meadows, gardens and farmland. It also gnaws off the roots and the root rod of vines, resulting in poor sprouting, sudden wilting of the leaves leads to death. The population density is very high, so the damage can be considerable. The pest is fought with traps or the creation of settlement places for natural opponents such as weasels and other small mammals. See also under Vine enemies,
