VQPRD

Designation or abbreviation for "quality wine produced in specified regions". This is the EU-compliant designation for quality wine of controlled origin or PDO, but it rarely appears on labels in this form. The abbreviation is identical in three languages, only in Spain it is "C" instead of "Q":

  • Germany: Quality wine of specified regions; see under QbA.
  • France: Vin de Qualité Produit dans une Région Déterminée (VQPRD)
  • Italy: Vino di Qualità Prodotto in una Regione Delimitata (VQPRD)
  • Portugal: Vinho de Qualidade Produzido em Região Determinada (VQPRD)
  • Spain: Vino de Calidad Producido en una Región Determinada (VCPRD)

The EU wine market regulation, which came into effect in 2009, brought about serious changes in the quality levels and designations. For more details, see Quality System and the wine-growing countries.
