Warwick Estate

The winery is located in the Muldersvlei zone ten kilometres outside the town of Stellenbosch in the South African wine district of the same name. It was founded in 1984 by the Ratcliffe family from Canada. Today it is run by Norma Ratcliffe together with her son Michael. The vineyards cover 55 hectares. They are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinotage and Sauvignon Blanc. The premium wines include the Bordeaux-style cuvée "Trilogy" (60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc), the cuvée "Three Cape Ladies" (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinotage), a Pinotage and, as the latest creation, a pure Cabernet Franc, which is aged with the support of the famous Château Cheval Blanc. From the best Trilogy grapes, the special cuvée "Femme Blue" is bottled in small quantities in the best years and is only sold at auctions. Around 80,000 bottles of wine are produced annually.

Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
