The estate is located in the town of Girlan (Cornaiano) near Bolzano in the Italian viticulture sector South-Tirol
(Region Trentino-Alto Adige
). The traditional company was founded in 1820 by Josef Weger I. This is one of the pioneers of the South Tyrolean wine industry and even then delivered its wines to Switzerland and the various countries of the Austrian Empire. Connected are a restaurant and a residence with 18 apartments. The current owner is Josef Weger V., since 1990 son Johannes has been the sixth generation to take over the management of the winery. The vineyards cover three hectares of vineyards, grapes are bought from a further five hectares. The white varieties Weißburgunder, Chardonnay, Müller-Thurgau, Gewürztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc and Ruländer as well as the red varieties Vernatsch, Lagrein, Blauburgunder, Merlot and Cabernet Franc are processed.
The red wines are fermented gently by flooding the mash hat with the carbon dioxide generated during fermentation, without any mechanical intervention. The wide range of products includes various wines from the DOC range Kalterersee
. St. Magdalener
and South Tyrol, In 2004, a new farm line of top wines "Maso delle Rose" (Rosenhof) was created. The premium wines include Pinot Noir Riserva and the Cuvée Joanni (Lagrein, Merlot, Cabernet Franc), both of which are aged in barriques for 18 months. Around 80,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. An export takes place to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, England, USA and Japan. The winery is a member of the associations of wineries in South Tyrol and Unione Vini Italiana.
