This vine disease is caused by the fungus Verticillium dahliae (hence the name Verticillium wilt). The mushroom is one of the most important wilting pathogens in plants and occurs in over 300 plants, for example in cotton, hops, clover, rapeseed, stone fruit, tomatoes and also in Rebstock, The fungus living in the soil penetrates into the plants directly through the root bark or through wounds after colony formation on the surface of the roots. As a result, the entire nutrient and water transport to the upper parts of the plant is interrupted (also by defense reactions of the plant). Individual shoots wilt and the entire plant dies.
