The winery is located in the municipality of Rödelsee on the Schwanberg (Steigerwald area) in the German wine-growing region of Franconia. The traditional winery has been growing wine since the 16th century. After completing his training in Weinsberg and gaining practical experience in the Palatinate and Burgundy, Paul Weltner took over the business in 2005 in the fourth generation of the family. The vineyards cover 11 hectares of vines in the single vineyard sites Julius-Echter-Berg (Iphofen), Küchenmeister (with the Hoheleite vineyard) and Schwanleite (Rödelsee). They are planted with the white wine varieties Silvaner (60%), Müller-Thurgau, Riesling, Scheurebe, Sauvignon Blanc and Weißburgunder (Pinot Blanc), as well as the red wine varieties Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) and Domina.
The vineyards are cultivated according to the company's philosophy of intensive manual care with the aim of creating healthy soils with vital vines. The wines are produced according to the four-level VDP classification model (Grosse Lage, Erste Lage, Ortswein, Gutswein). The white wines are predominantly matured in stainless steel tanks, the red wines partly in barriques. Sparkling wine is also produced. Around 70,000 bottles of wine are produced each year. The winery is a member of the VDP.
In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
