Werner von Bacharach

Werner was born a poor boy in St. Goarshausen in 1271. The name derives from the Germanic tribe of warnings, its feast day is April 19th. He worked as a day laborer for a winegrower in Oberwesel. The sixteen-year-old was killed for unknown reasons on Maundy Thursday in 1287 in Oberwesel near Bacharach and his body was thrown into the Rhine. Because of his work he will be on middle Rhine venerated as patron saint of winegrowers. See also under wine Saints,
