Willy Becher

Term for the German standard glass, which is mainly used for wine but also other drinks. The roller-shaped, stemless glass is narrow at the bottom, somewhat thick-bellied in the middle and tapers up again. There are different sizes with 0.2, 0.25, 0.3, 0.4 and 0.5 liters. It owes its name to the inventor Willy Steinmeier, then sales manager at Glaswerke Ruhrglas AG. Since 1954, up to ten million units have been sold to many countries every year.
