The first wine specialist chain in Austria was founded in 1993 by the Viennese entrepreneur and wine collector Heinz Kammerer with at that time six shops in Wien, Linz and Graz founded. In the following years Salzburg, Bregenz and Klagenfurt followed. Another milestone was the opening of the then revolutionary online shop in 1998. In 1999, the birth of the first WEIN & CO Bar on the Viennese Naschmarkt struck. End of 2018, the company was sent to the Hawesko Holding AG sold. The management was founded in 2019 by Willi Klinger, the former longtime manager of the ÖWM (Austria Wine Marketing).

The company concept "Wining-dining-shopping" (in already eight wine bars), so the best wines every day until 24 o'clock to shop and to enjoy the shop price at the bar, is still unique worldwide. In April 2011, the first "Shop in Shop" was opened in a MERKUR in cooperation with the Rewe Group. With 20 branches (including 7 with attached wine bar) throughout Austria, Wein & Co employs more than 270 people. Each employee has the opportunity at the expense of the company Wine Academy Austria to visit. In addition there is an Internet trade, which supplies one third of customers from Germany.

WEIN & CO sees itself as a premium brand that stands for enjoyment and lifestyle. The goal is to offer the best range with the best service at the best possible price. In total, around 2,000 wines and sparkling wines, 200 spirits and 300 delicatessen items, glasses and accessories are sold. About 50% of the turnover goes to wines from all over the world. In addition to a number of additional features, such as free tasting and delivery, volume discount or the annual bonus with the VinoCard, the company sees itself as a mediator in terms of wine. In addition to the wide range of wine seminars (ABC wine), you can also count on art and cultural events and organize the largest domestic wine festival (MondoVino).
