Wine & Spirits

The US wine magazine with offices in New York and San Francisco was founded in 1982. It should not be confused with the British journal Wine & Spirit International, which has a similar name. The target audience is consumers and wine professionals with articles on established and emerging regions and producers, the art and science of viticulture, events and wine-food pairing (which wine goes with which food). It is published seven times a year and is read by over 200,000 members. Joshua Greene, who worked in the magazine industry, became a consultant for the magazine in 1984. One of his first measures was to shorten the magazine's former name "Winestate's Wine & Spirits Buying Guide". It was finally bought by him in 1989. In addition to Greene, who acts as publisher and editor-in-chief, the authors and wine critics are Patrick Comiskey, Peter Liem, Fiona Morrison (MoW), David Schildknecht, Patricio Tapia and Tara Q. Thomas.

Wine & Spirits - Journale und Porträt von Greene

Around 15,000 wines are tasted and evaluated each year. Employees and a panel of sommeliers, wine merchants and winemakers take part in the wine tastings. The wines are tasted blind and rated using a 100-point system, although Greene is an outspoken opponent of this (O-Ton: I don't think it's very valuable information). There is also an online portal. See also under literature (authors) and wine guides (journals).
