Wine cellar management

From a certain number (greater than 30) of wine bottles, it is also advisable for the private wine consumer to keep a cellar register. Different wines have different development times and it is ideal to "enjoy a wine at the right age", i.e. when it has fully developed through bottle ageing at best and has reached optimum drinking maturity. The cellar book should contain the following data per bottle: Wine name according to label, source of supply/seller, purchase price, producer, bottler if applicable, quality level, type of wine (red, white, rosé, sparkling, dessert wine), bottle volume, vintage, ageing (dry, "lieblich", sweet), other information such as acidity, time of optimal maturity (according to seller's information or own experience and estimation), miscellaneous. After consumption, the date of enjoyment and occasion are added, as well as at least a brief wine evaluation. These entries are very helpful when buying new wines and especially when enjoying wine. There is a wide range of PC software (including free freeware) and apps on the market for this purpose. See also under wine cellar and wine climate control cabinet.
