Wine connoisseurs

connaisseur (F)

Colloquial term for someone who can professionally and "fairly" judge the quality of a wine (wine evaluation) and describe it (wine address). They should also be able to select the right or "suitable" wine for a dish and be able to master all the rules of cultivated wine enjoyment. In an upscale restaurant there is the function of the sommelier for this. The French term connoisseur is used to describe a professional taster or wine critic. See also under Gourmet.
