Name for an alcoholic product obtained by distilling wine or wine for distilling or redistilling a wine distillate. However, it is an intermediate product not intended for immediate consumption. Wine distillates are used (in addition to wine and wine for distilling) as a raw material in the production of brandy (max. 86% alcohol by volume) or brandy (max. 94.8%), as well as for the spriting of certain liqueur wines (max. 86%). See also under spirits.
For my many years of work as an editor with a wine and culinary focus, I always like to inform myself about special questions at Wine lexicon. Spontaneous reading and following links often leads to exciting discoveries in the wide world of wine.
