Wine Industry Act

A former piece of legislation before EU times, whose objective in Germany was defined as follows: To protect German viticulture within the EEC, especially with regard to the more climate-friendly wine-growing regions in France and Italy, the law provides for cultivation restrictions, price regulations for certain imported wines and a stabilisation fund financed by the vineyard owners, among other things. In Austria, the objectives were very similar. In Germany, the Wine Industry Act and the Wine Act were merged in 1994.

In Austria, the Wine Industry Act was repealed in 1986 (also due to the wine scandal, which led to stricter laws) and the correspondingly amended Wine Act was passed in 1985. The main topics of the former laws are now regulated in the wine laws of both countries and by corresponding EU regulations. All country-specific wine law issues can be found under the wine-growing countries. See also under wine law.
