Wine Lake

In the 1970s it became popular as a term for the surplus production of wine in Europe, as considerably more wine was produced than consumed. In the 1980s, the EEC and later the European Union therefore adopted countermeasures such as compulsory distillation and grubbing-up premiums. See also under Wine Law and Wine Production Quantities.
