The "Association of German-Speaking Wine Publishers - Weinfeder eV" with headquarters in Mainz was founded in 2000. The association is selfless and non-profit and does not primarily pursue its own economic purposes. It sees itself as an association of wine journalists with the aim of serving internal and external communication between wine professionals and the wine industry, publishers and media outlets as well as consumers. This is to be achieved through the following measures:

  • Internal communication on the ethical principles of wine journalistic work
  • greatest possible transparency in all questions of economic merging
  • Promotion of the competence of wine publicists
  • Promotion of young wine journalists
  • Sensitization members f. professional u. ethical problems of wine journalism
  • Conducting joint events, e.g. discussion forums, seminars etc.
  • Establishment of a central interface between wine publicists and the wine industry
  • Representation of wine journalistic interests vis-à-vis publishers etc. electronic media
  • Measures to promote the image and seriousness of wine journalism
  • Representation of German-speaking wine journalists in wine journalists associations ( FIJEV )
  • Measures to promote wine culture
  • Measures to protect the end user

The association has published a “Weinfeder Journal” four times a year since 2003, which is distributed to interested parties by email. At irregular intervals, the association awards a “German Wine Critique Award” and a “German Wine Critique Promotional Award” to wine producers or wine organizations that have made special contributions to wine. Since 2009 honorary memberships have been awarded to journalists whose professional achievements are to be recognized for wine journalism. Weinfeder eV also represents the German section of FIJEV, ie all are also members of FIJEV, the international organization of publicists for wine and spirits.
