Predecessor of the association in the Austrian Styria (Austria) was the "Styrian Wine" market community founded in 1987. The aim was to market Styrian wine as a rarity that is unique in the world. The trademark was the Styria bouteille with an embossed panther (state heraldic animal) on the capsule on the bottle neck. A wine brand founded by the community in 1995 was Styrian squire,

In July 2015, at the general assembly of the Styrian Wine Market Community, a two-thirds majority decided to merge the Regional Wine Committee Styria and the Styrian Wine Market Community into "Wine Styria" and thus to a marketing level. The Styrian winegrowers are responsible for the marketing of quality wines supported. The aim is to address the demanding wine customers in a targeted manner and thus also open up new markets. This takes place through an advertising line adapted to the Styrian wine as well as through joint high-quality wine presentations at home and abroad. The most important actions and tasks carried out by Wein Steiermark are:

  • The Styrian squire : A joint presentation of this wine brand takes place annually in several Austrian provinces.
  • The vintage presentations of the Steirsichen wines take place in March / April at various locations in Austria.
  • The days of the open cellar door: In the whole wine country, the participating winegrowers open their cellars to customers and friends of Styrian wine and allow a look behind the scenes.
