Wineck-Schlossberg

One of the Alsace (Haut-Rhin) sites classified as Grand Cru within the Alsace Grand Cru appellation. The name derives from the castle of Wineck, which has been entirely surrounded by vineyards since the 12th century. Wines from here were documented in 1264. The vineyards cover 28 hectares of vineyards at an altitude of 280 to 400 metres above sea level on granite soil in the two municipalities of Ammerschwihr and Katzenthal. They are planted with the varieties Riesling, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Gris. Well-known producers are Jean-Paul Ecklé, Klur-Stoecklé, Alfred Meyer, Meyer-Fonné, Paul Spannagel and Vincent Spannagel.
