Wineries Wagram

The winegrowers' association "Weingüter Collegium Wagram" in the wine-growing region of Wagram(Lower Austria) was founded at the end of 2001. However, it operates under the name "Weingüter Wagram". The chairman is Franz Leth from the winery of the same name in the municipality of Fels am Wagram. The main goal is to revitalise the Wagram region as an association at a high level within a short period of time and to live the characteristic of the up-and-coming wineries. Through constant exchange within the group, the winegrowers want to further improve the quality of their wines and thus stay on the ball of all innovations in the wine sector. The special leading variety of this area around the Wagram is Grüner Veltliner. The climate and soil, which are ideally suited for this grape variety, guarantee optimal ripeness and growth. The Wagram wineries aim to give this grape variety in particular an independent profile that can hold its own in the diverse Austrian Veltliner landscape.

Under the name "WW1", wines from the 2003 vintage were vinified by all member wineries Grüner Veltliner and the best quality wines were selected to underline the identification with this leading variety. In addition, several working groups were formed and experimental vineyards were planted to research this grape variety. This is also to be done for the variety Roter Veltliner. Member farms are Bauer Josef, Bauer Naturnaher Weinbau, Blauensteiner Leopold, Fritz Josef, Güntschl Ludwig, Leth Franz, Mayer Franz Anton, Mehofer - Neudeggerhof, Reinberger Alfred, Schuster Karl and Weinhof Grill. The best wines are offered in the area vinotheque in the Alter Winzerkeller in the municipality of Kirchberg am Wagram. A second Wagramer association with quite similar objectives is Wagramer Selektion.
