Winery point

Designation (also known as a "shaking line" or "shaking strip", French marque) for a mark applied by means of chalk or paint to the bottom of sparkling wine bottles produced according to the traditional champenoise method with manual remuage (shaking). Usually, during a shaking process, the bottle is rotated an eighth (45°) or quarter (90°) further and placed steeper. The marking serves the remueur (jogger) as a positioning aid or allows the extent of the rotation to be seen more clearly. For marketing reasons, the Austrian sparkling wine producer Schlumberger attaches the winery point to the bottles in a permanent form, thus guaranteeing the Méthode classique.
