Winzergenossenschaft Achkarren

The "Winzergenossenschaft Achkarren am Kaiserstuhl eG" in the German growing region to bathe was founded in 1929 by 16 resident winegrowers. Today, 325 members cultivate a total of 150 hectares of vineyards. Managing director is Waldemar Isele, the cellar master is Christoph Rombach. The varietal mirror consists of Pinot Gris (52 ha), Spätburgunder (50 ha), Müller-Thurgau (23 ha), Pinot Blanc (12.5 ha), Silvaner (4.5 ha), Gewürztraminer (2.2 ha), Muscat ( 2 ha), Chardonnay, Scheurebe, Riesling, Cabernet Mitos and others. The two individual layers of the community differ significantly in the structure of their soils. While in Castellberg the vines grow on pure loess clay, they are rooted in the Schlossberg in the volcanic weathering rock, which is only partially covered with a relatively thin loess clay pad.

In the best plots in the Schlossberg the yields are limited to a maximum of 50 hl / ha. The wines produced from this are marketed as "Best Barrel Selection". For the rest of the wines, the yield limit is 90 hl / ha. The wines are matured in stainless steel tanks, for the red wines, the dry Pinot Gris and the noble sweet wines in a large wooden barrel. It also produces sparkling wines and bottle fermented sect. In front of the entrance to the cellar, rock samples and excavation objects from the Achkarrer vineyards can be seen in two large showcases. In the oldest wine shop of South Baden wines are archived back to the year 1942. The wine cooperative is a member of DPW (German predicate vintners' cooperatives).
