The white grape variety is an open-pollinated seedling of the Concord variety; accordingly, the father variety is unknown. It contains genes from Vitis labrusca and Vitis vinifera. It was selected in the USA in 1880 by the private breeder M. Witt who gave it its name. The variety was a crossing partner of the new variety Minnesota 78, which was then used for many other crosses. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
I have great respect for the scope and quality of the wein.plus encyclopaedia. It is a unique place to go for crisp, sound information on terms from the world of wine.
