yellow wine

Popular name for a wine-like drink that was popular in Germany, especially in the 19th century. The drink produced after many recipes was mostly made in the style of a sweet wine. This was real wine or fruit wine mixed with sugar and alcohol and with various seasonings flavored, Main production areas in Germany were areas without viticulture, as well as Poland and Russia. The production and marketing of such Art wines was forbidden by wine law at the beginning of the 20th century. However, it must not be confused with the French Vin Jaune (ie "yellow wine").
