A joint project by Wolfgang Peck and Josef Umathum in Burgenland municipality Andau in the winegrowing area close to the Hungarian border Lake Neusiedl (Austria). Under the name Zantho (the Old Magyar word means "farmland") was already in 1488 the first written mention of the community Andau. With this brand name, a complete assortment of Burgenland red, white and sweet wines is produced in the wine cooperative Andau. The managing director and oenologist of the company is Wolfang Peck. To date, 7 million euros have been invested in the cooperative facilities for quality improvement measures, so that today one has one of the most modern wine operations in Austria. The significant logo on the bottle label is the Pannonian Forest Lizard (Zoodoca vivipara pannonica). The animal that lives here loves the warm, stone-rich soils in the Andauer vineyards and stands as a symbol for the relation to the ancestry and for the winemakers predetermined natural and for example beneficials careful management from the point of view of the Organic viticulture,

The grapes are supplied by nearly 50 selected winegrowers who work a total of 70 hectares of vineyards exclusively for the Zantho wines. The famous winemaker Josef Umathum is responsible for oenology and quality assurance. The winegrowers are trained and advised by him. Specifications include, for example, at least 3,750 sticks per hectare, maximum yields of 6,000 to 8,000 kg / ha and hand-picked. The white varieties Grüner Veltliner, Muskat Ottonel, Sauvignon Blanc and Scheurebe as well as the red varieties Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch , St. Laurent and Pinot Noir are processed. The aim is to produce wines of origin typical character for the international market in sufficient quantity. The specially founded company ZANTHO GmbH is responsible for the marketing. The first vintage was vinified in 2001 and bottled in August 2002. In the meantime 11 wines are produced. In appropriate years also Beerenauslese, Trockenbeerenauslese and ice wines are pressed. Every single wine is made according to IFS guidelines from the vine to the bottling accurately logged and thus 100% traceability guaranteed.
