Zarya Severa

The red grape variety is an interspecific new variety between Seyanets Malengra x Amurensis. Synonyms are Aurore du Nord, Zaria Severa, Zarja Severa and Zora Severa. Genes of Vitis amurensis and Vitis vinifera are included. The hybrid was crossed in 1936 by Ya. I. Potapenko and E. Zakharova at the Viticulture Research Institute in Rostov (Russia). It is an all-female grape variety and is therefore dependent on cross-pollination. The new varieties Mitschurinski and Severny were created with the same parents. Because of its high resistance to frost as well as downy mildew and sometimes powdery mildew, it is often used in Eastern Europe and Germany for breeding. She was a crossbreeding partner in GM 6493 and GM 6494, and either directly or through these two breeding material vines, Zarya Severa was involved in the new varieties Baron, Bronner, Cabernet Cantor, Cabernet Carbon, Cabernet Carol, Cabernet Cortis, Monarch, Prior, Rondo, Solaris and Souvignier Gris. In 2016 no stocks were reported (statistics Kym Anderson).

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
