Zghihară de Husi

The white grape variety originates from Romania. Synonyms are Ghihară, Poamă Zosănească, Sghigardă Galbenă, Zghihară, Zghihară Galbenă and Zghihară Verde Bătută. It is possibly a selection of the variety Galbenă de Odobești (in the VIVC catalogue, Zghihară de Husi is only given as a synonym for this variety). There are morphological similarities with the local varieties Berbecel and Cabasma Albă. The medium to late-maturing vine is susceptible to downy mildew and botrytis, but resistant to powdery mildew and drought. It yields fresh, acidic white wines with aromas of apples, pears and acacia. These are also used for distillation. The variety is grown in the Husi area (Moldova) on the border with Moldova. In 2016, 54 hectares of vineyards were designated (Kym Anderson).
