Zotzenberg

One of the Alsace (Bas-Rhin) sites classified as Grand Cru within the Alsace Grand Cru appellation. The vineyards cover 37 hectares of vines at an altitude of 315 to 215 metres above sea level on calcareous-clay soil in the commune of Mittelbergheim. They are planted with the varieties Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Pinot Gris and Sylvaner(Silvaner). From the 2005 vintage onwards, Sylvaner is permitted here as the fourth Grand Cru variety instead of Muscat Blanc; this is a special arrangement exclusively for Zotzenberg. Well-known producers are E. Boeckel, Bernard & Daniel Haegi, Fernand Seltz & Fils, Pierre et Jean-Pierre Rietsch and André Wittmann.
